Abstract In October and November 1996, approximately 850 acres of land owned or leased by Offutt Air Force Base for use as locations for communications equipment were examined for evidence of prehistoric through settlement period (late nineteenth century) archeological remains. The locations examined were Communications Annex Number 1 (near Silver Creek in Nance County), Communications Annex Number 2 (near Elkhorn in Douglas County), and Communications Annex Number 3 (at the former Scribner Air Base in Dodge County). Visual examination was conducted along pedestrian transects spaced at intervals of 10 to 20 meters apart. No archeological sites were recorded, and only two isolated artifacts of probable prehistoric age were found: a piece of chert shatter in the alfalfa field at the Elkhorn communications annex, and a chert flake at the silver Creek annex. No further archeological investigations are recommended, unless certain evidence of subsurface archeological resources is encountered in the future, which is considered unlikely.
