National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract An approach for quantifying biases and uncertainties in external dose measurements was developed, focusing on the kind of information needed for adjustment of epidemiologic dose response analyses. The approach evaluated biases and uncertainties in external dose estimates from each of several sources and combined them to obtain an overall assessment. An approach was developed and implemented for accounting for uncertainty in systemic bias in recorded external doses. The approach made it possible to account for a potentially important type of exposure undertainty. A model for uncertainties resulting from random variation in laboratory measurements and an approach for accounting for random uncertainties in estimates of cumulative external dose used in nuclear worker studies were developed. These were applied to dose response analyses based on Hanford worker radiation exposure data.
