Abstract	The Carlisle Finishing Plant, Cone Mills Corporation, Carlisle, South Carolina was the site of an occupational health and safety survey designed to identify specific areas of concern. The facility was engaged in commission finishing of textiles, including dyeing and printing; it employed 854 hourly workers on three shifts. Management was significantly involved with safety planning for the company. A general safety policy was set forth in the Personnel Policy Manual. The facility operated two types of safety committees, the executive committee and the hourly committee. Safety inspections and health hazard evaluations were conducted on a regular basis. The safety and health training program and the medical program at the facility were described. Operations at the facility were observed during the study, and specific hazards were described. Some of these pertained to ventilation systems; suggestions and rationale for improving the system were provided. Some suggestions were also made regarding housekeeping concerns. Sections of the Personnel Policy Manual were included in this report along with accident investigation reports, and job hazard analyses.
