Abstract |
As part of the development of the Safety First fault tree expert system to identify fall safety problems, the knowledge concerning the causes of construction falls was represented in the form of fault trees structures. The structuring of acquired knowledge using fault tree models was discussed. The models were furnished with numerous branches, each representing a path or sequence of events and causes which an expert may have gone through when diagnosing a fall case and concluding the basic cause or causes of the fall. The models revealed the causes of the events that contributed to a fall as well. The authors conclude that these models can serve as a visual template for training novices to analyzed the cause of a fall through the method of deduction. When used in conjunction with the Safety First program, these models classify causes of falls into a pattern of enabling, triggering, and support related events or causes. |
