Abstract |
This U.S. Bureau of Mine (USBM) publication prvides an overview of coal mine ignitions and explosions that occurred between January 1, 1981, and December 31,1994. Major disasters that produced multiple fatalities and resulted in substantial damage to the mine and minor events that resulted in no injuries or fatalities and did little damage to the mine, are included. Within this time period, there were seven major underground explosions that resulted in five or more fatalities. These disasters are discussed in some detail and a mine map of each disaster area is included. Appendixes list all reported ignitions and explosions chronologically. |
