National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract Several fluorinated derivatives of benzoic acid (fluorobenzoate, FBA) have proven their usefulness as nonreactive tracers in soil and groundwater. In the first part of this research four previously untested trifluorobenzoates (TFBA) and two tetrafluorobenzoates (TeFBA) were examined for their suitability as water tracers in saturated and unsaturated environments. In the second part of this research, a method was developed to concentrate FBAs in natural water samples. The technique utilized solid-phase extraction of FBAs followed by elution and analysis by high performance liquid chromatography.
