| Abstract |
During the last five years, interest and demand for new storage has increased due to multiple factors, including FERC Order 636, which promulgated the end of most the traditional pipeline merchant services and made LDCs, UEGs, and the largest users responsible for their own gas supply arrangements; the re-emergence of natural gas an energy source of choice following the lifting on its use as fuel; and the changing profile of storage use from seasonal withdrawal and injection to shorter duration deliverability with more flexible utilization. In order to assess the future for natural gas storage, it is necessary to analyze the customer segments, their respective economic considerations, and projected maximum peak day supply versus demand. |
