National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract	In September 1993, the Clinton Administration presented 'National Information Infrastructure (NII) Agenda for Action,' the first comprehensive statement of the Administration's visions and goals for the NII initiative. This report details what has been accomplished so far in efforts that have focused on three main areas: (1) Reforming domestic regulation; (2) Advancing access to information technologies; and (3) Moving to a Global Information Infrastructure. It also reiterates that while the private sector will build, own, and operate the NII, the government has an important role to play in its development. The document is a useful guide to what different federal agencies are doing to promote development and use of the NII.
