Abstract |
The report described a meeting with representatives from the Pittsburgh Energy Research Center for the purpose of discussing coal gasification projects. The safe handling of suspected carcinogens was of importance to the participants in the meeting. Several biological studies on the health hazards associated with chemical carcinogens created during the liquefaction of coal were cited. Specific safety measures to be followed by supervisors, employees, purchasing or procurement workers were delineated. Regulations concerning ventilation, storage, spillage, waste disposal, monitoring, and visitors to the site were discussed. The occupational medical examination program was described and the medical questionnaire given to all employees was attached. |
