PB89195424

Publication Date 1987
Personal Author Aiken, E. G.; Fowkes, R. S.
Page Count 648
Abstract The bibliography is a compendium of over 600 abstracts selected from a computerized data base called the Human Factors in Mining Search System (HFMSS) which was developed under the Human Factors Research Program at the Pittsburgh Research Center of the Bureau of Mines. HFMSS stresses all of the different areas of human factors or ergonomics as they have been or might be applied to mining. Each entry or abstract in HFMSS contains: Title of Publication, Author(s), Source of the Publication, Date, Page Numbers, Descriptive Terms or Key Words, and Abstract (divided into Purpose, Procedure, and Results). The bibliography is comprised of ten sections, each of which is preceded by a brief discussion of its contents: anthropometrics, work physiology, manual materials handling, and back injuries; equipment; female miners and female workers; human error and human reliability; environmental factors (illumination, noise, thermal stress); human factors; psychological factors; personal protective equipment and clothing, and hand tools; job or work design, task analysis, and organizational and management practices; and training. An index lists key words and the numbers of those abstracts which contain that key word in the Descriptive Terms field.
