Abstract Walk-through surveys were conducted at the General Electric facilities in Hudson Falls and Ft. Edward, New York with particular interest in workers exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls. The process of manufacturing capacitors which are filled with dielectric fluid (mainly polychlorinated biphenyls) is described. Potential hazards also include lead, trichloroethylene, and noise exposure in processing operations. Industrial hygiene and safety practices are briefly discussed. A recommendation is made to do industrial hygiene sampling at the plants.
