PB88249735

Publication Date 1981
Personal Author Bloom, T.
Page Count 22
Abstract Worker exposures to polynuclear-aromatic-hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined at the Aluminum Company of America, Wenatchee Works, Wenatchee, Washington, on August 22-24, 1978. The survey was part of a NIOSH study of the health effects of occupational PAH exposure. Approximately 355 of the workers at this facility were assigned to the potroom and carbon facility surveyed. Benzene soluble fraction concentrations ranged from less than 0.03 micrograms per cubic meter (CuM) to 0.35 micrograms/CuM. Chrysene concentrations ranged from less than 0.14 micrograms/CuM to 3.00 micrograms/CuM. Pyrene concentrations were in the range of less than 0.30 to 5.30 micrograms/CuM. Fluoranthene concentrations ranged from less than 0.06 to 5.40 micrograms/CuM. Benz(a)anthracene and benzo(a)pyrene concentrations ranged from less than 0.07 to 2.90 micrograms/CuM, and from 0.02 to 2.50 micrograms/CuM, respectively. There were no occupational health standards for these PAHs at the time of the survey.
