Abstract |
A bibliography of information on heat resistant fabrics for protective clothing, or which might be considered asbestos substitutes was presented. Of particular importance in the bibliography were the papers dealing with the measurement of protective and comfort properties as well as the papers which deal with the means of measuring the garments themselves. The listing should benefit those working in the area of industrial safety apparel, as well as those concerned with developing, testing, or using clothing for protection against heat hazards. Specific papers deal with the question of flammability, fire retardance, product engineering, physical and chemical properties of various fabrics, asbestos substitutes, catalogues of available protective equipment, aramid fibers, convective heat hazards, resistance of wool, multipurpose finishes, zirpro wool, hazards of molten metals, problems of fire fighters, thermal injury resulting in irreversible epidermal injury, racing drivers, water cooled hoods, thermal stress, cutaneous burns, ventilation, psychological aspects of thermal comfort, flight suits, thermal radiation, and aluminized fabrics. |
