Abstract The neural and behavioral effects of air contaminants such as CO2, CO and hydrocarbons are reviewed. Each contaminant or contaminant class is reviewed separately and then an attempt is made to estimate effects of combinations of contaminants. The effects are reviewed for both normobaric and hyperbaric conditions. Rough dose-effects curves were constructed from data found in the literature.
