Abstract Rats and guinea pigs (ten of each) were individually exposed to 30 minute inhalation tests using industrial chemicals to develop Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) values. The no effect (NE) level concentration was defined as that concentration producing none of the following treatment related effects in any animal: death, irreversible pathological lesions, or impaired escape ability during the exposure. The minimal effect (ME) level was defined as that concentration producing one or more of the treatment related effects in one or two animals regardless of sex or species. The frank effect (FE) level was defined as that concentration producing one or more of the treatment related effects in three or more animals regardless of sex or species. Findings for the chemicals tested were given.
