Abstract The procedure manual will be used in CDC headquarters and field training courses, and in the laboratory at the work site. The contents of the manual are intended to be used by the Level III Mycobacteriology laboratories on a daily basis to improve personnel performance and proficiency. The following are described in depth: laboratory safety, specimen collection and transportation, isolation procedures, identification techniques, culture examination and identification, antituberculosis chemotherapy and drug susceptibility testing, reporting culture reports, and quality control.
