Abstract |
Guidelines are provided for the design of explosion-proof electrical enclosures that will meet MSHA certification requirements according to Part 18, Title 30, of the Code of Federal Regulations, and fulfill their intended service underground. The guide covers only those aspects of design that affect enclosure strength, ruggedness, endurance, and flame path, i.e., the enclosure ability to properly contain an internal explosion. Internal static and explosion pressures, and external impact and thermal heating loads are treated as well as the proper selection of materials and welding procedures. |
