Abstract	A walk through survey of the acrylamide (79061) and polyacrylamide (9003058) production facilities at Dow Chemical USA (SIC-2869, SIC-2899), Midland, Michigan, was conducted in May, 1984. The purpose of the survey was to determine if an indepth industrial hygiene survey should be conducted at the facility. Acrylamide and polyacrylamide were manufactured in processes at three separate sites. Engineering controls included enclosure of acrylamide sampling sites, each site being under negative pressure, diking of production and storage areas, and general ventilation. The company maintained a full time medical department that offered preemployment and voluntary biennial physicals to all employees. The company monitored acrylamide concentrations were generally below the OSHA standard of 0.3 milligram per cubic meter. There was an extensive training program for all new employees that emphasized proper handling and cleanup of acrylamide. The author concludes that the company has a well established medical and industrial hygiene program. Dow Chemical USA should be included in the industrywide survey of occupational exposure to acrylamide.
