National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Publication Date 1979
Page Count 32
Abstract The NIOSH validated method for the determination of formic-acid (64186) is presented. Twenty four liters of air (flow rate at 0.05 to 0.20 liters per minute) are drawn through two glass tubes connected in series containing 60/80 mesh Chromosorb 103 to trap formic-acid vapors. The contents of each tube are transferred to a 20 milliliter (ml) container and the sample is desorbed with 10ml deionized water. The desorbant is injected into an ion chromatograph equipped with an electrolytic conductivity detector. The height of the sample peak is measured. The concentration of formic-acid in the sample is determined by reference to a calibration curve obtained by analyzing standards having concentrations of 0.1 to 3 times the OSHA standard of 9 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/cu m).
