Abstract |
The results of the air sampling for asbestos fibers conducted in the JFK Federal Building on May 13, 1976 are shown on Table 1. These sample results show air concentrations of fibers well below the U.S. Dept. of Labor standard which was effective July 1, 1976. These samples were collected on 37 millimeter diameter membrane filters of 0.8 micron pore size mounted in 3 piece cassettes. Personal sampling pumps provided airflows of 2 liters per minute through open face filters. At the NIOSH Salt Lake City laboratory the fiber concentrations were determined by phase contrast microscope at 400 magnification. The results of asbestos analyses upon bulk samples taken from the structural steel supports are given in Table 2. It should be noted that these results are approximate, which in this instance should be adequate. |
