Assessment of Asbestos Concentrations in the Engine Room Environment of Marine Vessels, Phase 1.

PB84104108

Publication Date 1979
Personal Author Jones, D. R.
Page Count 36
Abstract Large quantities of asbestos, a group of naturally occurring fiberous minerals, have been used in the construction of ships, especially since the World War II shipbuilding boom. Recent knowledge of airborne asbestos fibers involvement in asbestosis and mesothelioma as a primary casual agent and its contributory effect in lung cancer has been of concern to many groups. The primary governmental agencies charged with control of asbestos emissions and with the health effects of asbestos are: Occupational Safety and Health Administration. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Environmental Protection Agency.
