Abstract	A review and update of technical papers associated with crystalline silica exposure hazards has been prepared for the purpose of augmenting information presented in the 1975 document, 'Criteria for a Recommended Standard...Occupational Exposure to Crystalline Silica.' No changes in the recommended standard are proposed, although there have been many assessments of the silica hazards in foundries, abrasive-blasting operations, silica flour and abrasive cleaner manufacturing, and the firebrick and ceramic industries. A series of epidemiological studies which address the risk of respiratory malignancy among workers exposed to crystalline silica are referenced. Also included in the review is a summary of OSHA inspections (by SIC codes) and a listing of NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation Reports on crystalline silica.
