Publication Date 1976

Abstract This report is designed to present a critical review and evaluation of the recent scientific literature concerning hazards associated with exposure to ammonia. It is intended to provide an update for the existing NIOSH criteria document for ammonia by considering the results of published and unpublished research which have appeared since the preparation of the original document. In assembling this update, pertinent new information was sought relating to the areas of human and animal toxicity, analytical and sampling methods, work practices and engineering controls, and miscellaneous aspects regarding uses, sources, standards, etc. Identification of relevant articles and documents was accomplished through a search of the scientific literature utilizing both computerized and manual searching of various data bases and published secondary bibliographic sources.
