Abstract In recent years, new cancer cases in the U.S. have been developed at the rate of 600,000 per year resulting in a cancer death rate in excess of 350,000 per year. Spokesmen from the National Cancer Institute have stated that 80-90 percent of these cancers can be traced to an environmentally-induced origin; and past Director of the National Institutes of Health has stated that most known environmental carcinogens are a result of our increased agricultural and industrial technology. In the past, these considerations have not been appropriately reflected in Federal priorities and the allocation of research resources for prevention in contrast with resources for the diagnosis and treatment of human cancer.
