Abstract A study guide for accident potential recognition is reviewed. Topic areas include site and structures, operating machinery and equipment, materials, and energy. The recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards are stressed. Goals for the recognition of accident potential are listed. Weather, lighting, environmental and site characteristics, deterioration and deformation, and poor housekeeping are considered as factors for potential hazards. Quizzes and discussion questions are also presented. The authors note that this guide is designed to provide education and training for new persons in the safety field, in order to improve their capability in recognizing accident potential in a wide range of topic areas and a broad scope of operational activities.
