Information and Data for Use in Preparation of a Criteria Document for Coke Producing Operations.

PB82166539

Publication Date 1981
Page Count 81
Abstract Work practices of coke oven workers are examined in order to find procedures to reduce exposures to coke oven emissions from coke producing operations. Evaluations were made of each job, the feasibility of the use of respirators, construction of filtered air and conditioned air booths, administrative controls, and general operating procedures. Because of widely varying coke plants in the United States, only general recommendations are made, among them some relating to the charging of coal, the coking of the coal charge and the pushing of coke. Other recommendations are: individual plant surveys to define local problem areas; engineering controls; definition of exposure time; and the abandonment of the coal tar pitch volatile standard of emission which is deemed not applicable to coke-oven emissions.
