Worker exposures to asbestos (133214) were surveyed at American Asbestos Textile Company (SIC-3292) in Meredith, New Hampshire, during October 1970. Sixty three out of the 75 samples analyzed exceeded the threshold limit value of 5 fibers per milliliter greater than 5 microns in length. The range of asbestos fiber concentrations in the fiber preparation, carding, spinning, twisting, winding, weaving, and rope, wick, braid and cord areas were 7.4 to 40.9, 7.0 to 35.0, 3.7 to 21.6, 5.3 to 31.1, 1.6 to 17.7, 1.8 to 31.1 and 1.4 to 5.4 fiber per cubic centimeter greater than 5 microns (f/cc), respectively. In miscellaneous areas of the facility, concentrations ranged from 22.7 to 37.0f/cc. |
