Abstract |
Antimony-oxide (1327339) facilities were surveyed at the Harshaw Chemical Company (SIC-3339) in Gloucester City, New Jersey, on May 14 to 17, 1975. Twenty one operators and maintenance men were directly involved with antimony-oxide production. All employees received pre-employment physical examinations, periodic X-rays, and biological monitoring for antimony (7440360). General area and personal air samples indicated that antimony and arsenic (7440382) concentrations exceeded the current federal standards, but that arsenic concentrations were below proposed OSHA standards. The authors recommend that larger bags be used with bagging machines, stream processes be examined and redesigned where necessary, and improved worker hygiene practices be instituted. |
