| Abstract |
This report describes excavations conducted at the late prehistoric Little Egypt site during three field seasons, 1970-72. The site consists of two platform mounds and a surrounding village. Major occupation occurred during the 16-17th centuries and is identified with the Little Egypt and Barnett phases of Lamar culture. Three Barnett phase structures and two inter-structure areas (one Barnett phase, and one Little Egypt phase) were excavated. Floors and occupation surfaces were excavated in two foot squares and associated occupation debris was processed by flotation. All artifact classes -- pottery, chert, non-flaked stone tools, bone tools, animal bone and plant macrofossils -- are described and analyzed. |
