Abstract	The report contains guidelines intended to assist in providing a safe and healthful workplace by preventing employee exposure to carcinogens. The first section is a nontechnical discussion of cancer, carcinogens and requirements of the OSHA standards for 14 carcinogens promulgated in 1974. The second section is a more detailed discussion of the requirements of these standards and includes recommendations to the technical management for compliance. The standards covered are general in nature. They represent minimal conditions that should be observed from the time a substance is identified as a human cancer-suspect agent until specific standards are promulgated.
