Abstract A guide is presented for the diagnosis of occupational diseases, intended for the use of physicians and members of allied professions engaged in efforts to prevent and control the potential diseases of the occupational environment. The main topics covered include: means of contact and entry of toxic agents; mode of action of toxic substances; occupational dermatoses; pneumoconioses; chemical hazards; pesticides; plastics and synthetic resins; physical hazards (radiation, abnormal air pressure, abnormal temperature, defective illumination, noise and vibration); biologic hazards; plant and wood hazards; source of consultation on occupational health; occupational health reference aids. Published threshold limit values are also included.
