Abstract	The initial stages of the development of an improved certification program for organic vapor cartridges and canisters are described, which will ensure that cartridges and canisters provide adequate protection against the organic gases and vapors for which they are certified, and provide information to the user on the proper use and limitation of the device. Significant results of a literature review pertaining to adsorption are presented, together with a summary of laboratory tests conducted under the same project, a proposed test method for organic vapor respirator sorbents and recommendations for further research required to complete the development of an improved test method for organic vapor respirator sorbents.
