National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Review and Evaluation of Analytical Methods for Environmental Studies of Fibrous Particulate Exposures.

PB274750

Publication Date 1977
Personal Author Zumwalde, R. D.; Dement, J. M.
Page Count 78
Abstract Sampling and analytical methods which may be used to identify and quantify fibrous particulates in environmental samples are reviewed and the electron microscopic methods used by NIOSH are described in detail. The main topics covered include: optical microscopic methods; differential thermal analysis; x-ray diffraction; microchemical techniques; comparison of transmission and scanning electron microscopy; methods for fiber sampling and analysis, including sample collection and preparation, analytical instrumentation, and identification and characterization procedures. Electron photomicrographs of many fibrous minerals are included.
