An Evaluation of the USBM Sorting Machine on Native Copper Ores of the Keweenaw District.

PB274413

Publication Date 1977
Personal Author Schultz, C. W.; Karkkainen, C. W.
Page Count 67
Abstract The report is a comprehensive evaluation of a Bureau of Mines developed induction balance sorting machine for separating rock fragments that contain metal from those that do not. The machine was evaluated using run-of-mine ore containing native copper from the Kingston and Centennial mines and waste rock that contains copper metal from the Champion mine. The tests show that the sorter is capable of sorting efficiencies of 91.5% with a 97+% availability. Calculations suggest that, if the capacity of the machine can be increased, the cost of mining native copper ores could be reduced.
