Abstract |
The potential health hazards in melting and pouring areas of foundries are metal dusts and fumes, silica dusts, gases, vapors, noise and vibration, and radiant energy. The sources of each hazard and particular hazards arising in aluminum, brass, bronze, iron, and magnesium foundries are described. The clues to overexposure are listed, with the appropriate controls. The actions which workers should take for their own protection include reporting problems, wearing protective equipment, housekeeping, personal hygiene and medical examinations. A list of do's and don'ts for a healthy work environment, and some brief first aid information are given. |
