Development of an Improved Type of Coal Mine Dust Sampling Pump.

PB240661

Publication Date 1974
Page Count 22
Abstract The purpose of this research contract was to develop an improved dust sampling pump with an electrical to mechanical energy conversion efficiency superior to that of the available equipment. Any increase in efficiency would allow the size and weight of the pump to be reduced. The pump was to operate at 9 liters-per-minute at 20 cm of water vacuum. A prototype piston pump driven by a linear actuator was constructed. Flow rate was automatically regulated using a flow sensing thermistor and a feedback circuit to drive the linear actuator. However, the efficiency of the pump was only 1.6 percent which is less than that of conventional air sampling pumps.
