Mine Subsidence-Extent and Cost of Control in a Selected Area.

PB236093

Publication Date 1971
Personal Author Cochran, W.
Page Count 38
Abstract Mine subsidence caused by recent underground mining, extent of damages, and a procedure for evaluating subsidence costs are discussed. On the basis of the quantity of material removed from beneath the surface, bituminous coal mining currently causes more extensive subsidence problems than mining of other minerals; costs are highest in areas such as western Pennsylvania where urban and suburban development and related types of land use conflict with mineral recovery.
