Abstract	The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in response to a request received from a representative of employees conducted a health hazard survey to evaluate exposures to hickory sawdust and smoke, and Aqua-Sol in the canning room and kill room respectively at Yoder Locker Plant, Grantsville, Maryland. Environmental air samples were collected on two days in the canning room for hickory sawdust thermal decomposition products. Chemical analysis did not reveal the presence of the above mentioned products on either filter or charcoal tube samples. Concentration levels of all collected samples were well below the established standards. The organic vapors from substances evaluated were not considered toxic in concentrations found or used. Additionally, sound level measurements were obtained. Recommendations have been submitted to management to obviate potential hazard exposures to the 44 affected employees.
