National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract An investigation was conducted to make pressure drop design data available for commercially marketed converging flow fittings used in industrial ventilation exhaust systems. The investigation included an experimental study and an analytical study. Forty-nine fittings over a wide range of sizes were studied in the experimental phase. The recommended geometry of a converging flow fitting consists of a tapered mainstream with a branch entry angle of thirty or forty-five degrees. The analytical study consisted of developing semi-empirical equations which would be applicable to fittings with tapered mainstreams and thirty, forty-five, or ninety degree branch angles for all combinations of branch, upstream, and downstream diameters.
