National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract A cooperative research program concerned with the fundamentals of motor gasoline storage stability was undertaken to increase and accumulate fundamental information relating to fuel stability. A rapid and precise method was developed for predicting motor gasoline storage stability through a comprehensive program of investigation of fuel composition, component reactivity, lead alkyl reactions and application of these data to the ultimate design of the prediction test. This new method allows the estimation of useful life, with considerable accuracy, of gasolines stored for long periods under adverse conditions. A significant bibliography of related literature is included. (Author)
