Abstract The specific aim of this study was to explore the relationship between self-reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in burned military service members injured while on combat duty in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) or Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Service members (SMs) were treated at the United States Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) Burn Center during the period September 1, 2005 through August 31, 2006. Specifically, the study team aimed to determine the percentage of service members who sustained both a burn and blast injury and demonstrated symptoms of PTSD. Additionally, the team examined specific correlates of the assessment instruments to determine exact similarities and differences between the symptoms of mTBI and PTSD.
