Management of Hypertensive Patients by Clinical Nurse Specialist in a Military Setting.

PB2013104667

Publication Date 2004
Page Count 62
Abstract Hypertension (HTN) is one of the most common chronic diseases. It contributes to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality across many different populations and results in increased health care costs. Despite HTN treatment recommendations, including effective pharmacological and lifestyle modification regimens, a great number of hypertensive patients are not controlling their blood pressure. This randomized clinical trial was designed to test the effectiveness of a comprehensive educational-behavioral intervention program on essential hypertensive patients in a military setting. A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) provided the intervention program to the treatment group, while members of the control group (or UC group) received the usual care available in the military setting.
