Abstract Today, the U. S. Army is performing a variety of peacekeeping and peace enforcement missions labeled Operations Other Than War (OOTW). One previous grounded theory study considered the experience of Air Force nurses serving in Croatia. The research question guiding this study was: What is the practice of nursing by Army Nurse Corps officers in OOTW compared to wartime nursing. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the Army Nursing Practice conceptual model and components of readiness guided the study. Seventy-five Army Nurse Corps officers with deployment experience, both active duty and reserve components, participated. Using a focused interview guide, participants were interviewed either in person or by telephone. Consent forms were mailed in advance and returned signed and witnessed. Verbal consent was obtained on the tape recording before the interview. Demographic data were summarized using frequencies and descriptive statistics.
