Abstract The purpose of the WKU program in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) has always been to nurture the broad base of applied skills required of most EHS professionals today. This trend is also consistent within the industrial region served by the WKU IH Program which consists primarily of small to medium-sized companies employing 50 - 300 employees. In the majority of these industries, a single individual is designated as the EHS Manager. To this person goes the responsibility of dealing with all matters pertaining to IH, safety, and environmental management (e.g. air/water quality issues, hazardous waste management, etc.). The necessity of applying a broad base of technical skills and problem solving abilities within such a complicated regulatory framework makes the field of EHS Management one of the most complex and challenging of the current scientific disciplines.
