Abstract |
This Student Manual is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's, Federal Highway Administration's, Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety's (BMCS) 'Model Curriculum for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers.' The content of the manual is based upon the BMCS Proposed Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers. The four basic goals of this course are identical to those found in the BMCS Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers, which are designed to insure the student's: Personal safety (during training activities); Learning how to drive safely (avoiding accidents); Learning how to drive legally (how to comply with laws and regulations for truckers); and Learning how to drive efficiently (how to get maximum fuel mileage and avoid excess wear and tear on vehicle parts). This course is divided into five major 'sections,' which are divided into 'units' and these units each contain several lessons. The five major sections are Basic Control; Safe operating practices; Advanced operating practices; Vehicle maintenance; and Non-vehicle activities. |
