Abstract A process for the manufacture of high-Btu gas from coal was developed. The process consists of fluid-bed gasification of the coal, followed by the gas treatment step of gas purification and methanation. Advantages of the system are that caking coals can be used directly, and more than half of the ultimate methane is made in the gasifier. (Author)
