Abstract	A high energy resolution balloonborne gamma ray telescope, consisted of two Ge(Li) diodes and an active shield of NaI(Tl) scintillators, is described. The data obtained during both the laboratory calibration of the instrument and a stratospheric balloon flight are discussed. The advantages of the utilization of this telescope to detect cosmic nuclear lines, which are the most direct probe of high energy processes taking place in the Universe, are emphasized.
