National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Determination of Flatwise Tensile Strength of Various Honeycomb/CFRP Sandwich Configurations.

N7720171

Publication Date 1976
Personal Author Godfried, L. M.
Page Count 16
Abstract The values of flatwise tensile strength of various honeycomb/CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) sandwich configurations were determined from tensile tests. A 30% lower ultimate strength was determined for epoxy adhesive/glass fabric (5.677/1) compared with epoxy adhesive film 5.917/2 on heavy aluminum honeycomb type 5.453/4. All flatwise tensile strength tests carried out with epoxy adhesive/Kevlar fabric (5.685/1) on Nomex core and low density aluminum core showed core failure.
