Abstract	The synthesis of nitroaminoguanidine and the nitrates of amino-, diamino- and triaminoguanidine in water and ethanol producing the yellow aminoguanidine salt of 1.6-dinitrobiguanidine was studied. The reaction of nitroguanidine with hydrazine and hydrazine nitrates produces, under different conditions, nitroaminoguanidine, mono-, di-, and triaminoguanidine nitrate. The reaction is suitable for the production of nitroaminoguanidine and diaminoguanidine nitrate on a preparative scale. Aminoguanidine nitrate can be prepared from the reaction of nitroguanidine with hydrazine and ammonium nitrate or from the reaction of nitroguanidine with hydrazine nitrate in an ammonia solution.
