National Technical Reports Library

The National Technical Information Service acquires, indexes, abstracts, and archives the largest collection of U.S. government-sponsored technical reports in existence. The NTRL offers online, free and open access to these authenticated government technical reports. Technical reports and documents in its repository may be available online for free either from the issuing federal agency, the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s Federal Digital System website, or through search engines.

Abstract Two laser beams, one argon (5145 A) and one CO2 (10.6 microns), were propagated over vertical path from the ground to receivers located above the atmosphere, and the scintillation of the beams was measured. Simulataneous measurement of the state of turbulence along the path permitted the comparison of scintillation statistics with theory. The effects of atmospheric turbulence over a vertical or near-vertical path are discussed.
